Full Description

Boundary stone. Medieval. Limestone. Roughly dressed massive irregular shaped block approximately 1 metre high and 1.75 metres long; tapers from approximately 2 metres to 1 metre wide. (An Inventory of the Historical Monuments of the City of York: RCHME: Outside the City Walls East of the Ouse: HMSO: 1975-: 54).

NMR Information:

[SE 6070 5364] White Cross [GT], (site of).

Whitestone Cross, a boundary mark mentioned in 1374/5. The
base still exists on the grass centre of the road junction near
the entrance to Rowntree's works.

Only the weathered socket stone of this cross remains, and this
is now buried to ground level. See GP. AO. 63. 111. 2.
