Full Description

Carriage and foot gates, railings and piers forming the north-eastern boundary to the forecourt of The King's Manor (qv). Probably c1900. Gates and railings of cast and wrought-iron on low moulded stone wall with stone piers at each end. Railings are square sectioned and incorporate open panels of scrollwork with coupled volutes and twists as finials: gate piers are similar but taller. Piers at each end are square on plan, with trefoil-headed sunk-panelled sides and moulded cornices beneath flat caps. Piers incorporate pendant armorial shields on two faces, all badly defaced except for one bearing a sun in splendour adjacent to The City Art Gallery (qv).
