Full Description
Public house. 1896 on site of earlier inn. Architect WH Brierley. Brick, with painted render on 1st floor and with stone dressings. Plain tile roof. EXTERIOR: facade symmetrical, with two 6-sided 2-storey bay windows with flat roofs. The windows are leaded casements, with each of the 6 sides of the bays divided into 2 tall lights. In the centre of the facade, between the bay windows, there is a 2-light casement window on the 1st floor above a doorway with a moulded limestone surround with Tudor arch. Chimneys to left and right. The right-hand return wall includes a 2-storey 4-sided bay window under a gable. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached to the front a curved low stone wall with stone coping and square piers with ball finials. Corner railings enclose The Burton Stone (qv) with iron gates beyond.
