Full Description

Headstone. c1865. Members of the Knowlson family. Ashlar stone with copper inscription panels. Ogee headed stone slab forms moulded surround to 2 inscription panels separated by central stem-like rib which rises through the head of the slab between two addorsed crockets: central rib is surmounted by squat cross with moulded terminals decorated with ivy trails and central boss containing defaced IHS. Inscription at head of the panels reads: "Have Mercy O Lord on the Souls of...". Then follow the names of Sophia Knowlson, d.1863; James Mackrell, d.1854; Richard Knowlson, d.1869; James Knowlson, d.1919; Mary Knowlson, d.1898. A sum of money for a stone and engraving was paid to the Cemetery Company in 1865 by a Mr Knowlson.
