Full Description

House, now flats. 1865. Red brick with some painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attic and basement. 3 bays. At the left on the ground floor a canted bay window is set on a raised brick panel. It is sashed without glazing bars and has a panelled frieze below a dentilled cornice. The base contains basement windows which are sashed, with segmental heads and painted lintels. The 1st floor windows are sashed without glazing bars and have painted semicircular arches with keystones, impost blocks, and an impost band. Above there is a storey band. In front there is a moulded painted balcony with a cast-iron front with diagonal and foliage patterns. The 2nd floor windows are sashed and have architraves with segmental heads. The attic has 2 gabled dormers (the left-hand one wider), now with UPVC casements. Between the paired brackets which support the gutter cornice there are raised circular bosses. To the right there is a corbelled doorhead with segmental arch, keystone, 2 carved rosettes, and a dentilled cornice. The recessed door has 6 raised diamond panels and a plain overlight with segmental top. Chimneys to left and right. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the attached railings have spear head finials and are set on low brick walls with stone copings. The gate is also of iron, with iron gateposts which have ball finials. Nos 1-22 Bootham Terrace form an unusually complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870 to an interesting variety of different designs.
