Full Description
House, a 2002-2004 complete rebuilding of a mid-C18 farmhouse.
MATERIALS: reclaimed brick laid to imitate English Garden Wall Bond, blockwork inner skin,
engineering bricks used for foundations. Pantile roof, those to the front elevation being
reclaimed.
PLAN: Lobby entry, but the principal entry is now via the east side of the rear-projecting range.
EXTERIOR: Front: is of two storeys and three bays with the front door to the west side of the east-most bay. The ridge has two chimneys to the ridge, one to the west gable, one between the eastern two bays (displaced slightly to the west from the original building where the chimney was originally aligned with the front door). The front door is now a plain boarded door of traditional appearance (but modern construction): it was described at the time of Listing as “C20 part-glazed door with overlight”. Windows at the time of listing were described as “16-pane sashes throughout with ashlar sills”. The current windows can be seen to acknowledge this
description but are PVC double glazed eight-over-eight horned sashes with concrete sills.
Other elevations: these were not described at the time of listing. There is no evidence that any parts of the original building were retained in situ at the time of rebuilding.
INTERIOR: at the time of Listing there was no internal inspection. There is nothing within the interior that might be an in situ survival from the original building. The house does include some exposed reused timbers to ceilings, but these are clearly reset. Internal doors are four panelled of traditional design but are obviously of modern construction and are not architectural salvage. The roof structure is also of modern construction with replaced timber.
Under consideration for de-listing by HE on grounds of having been completely re-built in 2004 with no in situ external or internal features other than reclaimed building materials. 26/06/2025
