Full Description

Approximately 50 circular embanked and ditched enclosures, 5-6 m in diameter, which are thought to be peat stands of Post Medieval date, were seen as earthworks on air photographs covering Strensall and Towthorpe Commons. These features are confined to the more water-logged areas of the Commons, probably resulting from peat extraction. Centred on SE 6446 5955, they occur over an area with a radius of approximately 600 m.
