Summary

Vertical aerial photographs of the early post-War period record a field system of ridge and furrow cultivation of medieval date in Osbaldwick parish. Much of this has been built upon. Recent photography records traces surviving around Langton House on the north side of Osbaldwick village.

Full Description

Vertical aerial photographs of the early post-War period record a field system of ridge and furrow cultivation of medieval date in Murton parish. Some still survive to the south of Murton village. The Farming Museum and the nearby abbatoir are built on fields of ridge and furrow cultivation.
Additional fields of surviving ridge and furrow to the north of Osbaldwick were recorded on aerial photographs taken in January 2003.
