Summary

Aerial photographs show evidence of a field system of ridge and furrow cultivation of medieval date in Skelton parish. Recent photographs show hardly any survives as earthworks. Medieval ridge and furrow, some surviving as earthworks, but the majority visible as cropmarks, in Rawcliffe parish seen on air photographs.

Full Description

Aerial photographs show evidence of a field system of ridge and furrow cultivation of medieval date in Skelton parish. Recent photographs show hardly any survives as earthworks.

A few fields of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, some surviving as earthworks, but the majority visible as cropmarks, show up on aerial photographs in Rawcliffe parish. A large area of the parish is taken up with housing estates and a disused airfield.
