Summary

Identified as Buildings of Merit in the Historic Core Conservation Area Appraisal. All surveyed in December 2014 and described as being in good condition. 2 Deansgate: Known as The Old School. The building was originally known as St Peters School and was built between 1830-1833 for the Dean and Chapter to designs by C Watson and J P Pritchett in Tudor Gothic style in Magnesium Limestone with slate roof. In 1844 St Peters left the building and moved to a site at Clifton. The school was then used by the Government School of Design and later the York School of Art. In 1903 it became the Minster Song School and was extended from a single storey to a double storey building. In good condition. Differential settlement to the SW corner is monitored. 4 Deansgate/52 Goodramgate: York Minster Works Department. 3 storeys of workshops and offices. Integral to 6 Deansgate. All buildings are owned by the Chapter of York and are subject to quinquennial inspections archived at the Minster Library.
