Full Description

Designed by Fred Rowntree who made the plan for the layout of the Park. The tall 4-storey building occupies a prominent position from where the resident park keeper was able to supervise activities in the Park. The upper floors consist of two storeys of living accommodation historically meant for the park keeper, and the lower floors are used for a cafe and storage space. It holds high community value, being used by York Explore as a popular Reading Cafe, with further plans to develop the now vacant living spaces into a communal haven. Together with the nearby bridge over the lake and the Dovecote, the Lodge creates an important group forming the nucleus of the Park. Moreover, the elevated position offers landmark views of the park.
