Route record MYO4202 - Via Praetoria/Stonegate
Summary
Probably ran the length of what is now Stonegate leading from the Basilica, the headquarters of the Roman military and crossing the Ouse to the civilian west bank. The route was used to bring stone to the Minster from boats at the river. Hence the name Stonegate. The name Stonegate appears on records as early as 1118.
