Summary

c.600 pennies and half-pennies of Edward the Confessor found in an earthenware vessel of crucible shape. Also c50-60 silver pennies (William I) found in purses c.1881.

Full Description

Nothing is known of the circumstances of the finds other than that they were made on the 'platform on which Baile Hill looks down'. Found c.1881. The first notice of the find refers only to a 'a large number of silver pennies of Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror' - no specific quantity mentioned. The vessel hoard has been divided across several museusms. C.50-50 silver pennies of William I were also found in 'two or three purses'.
