Summary
The Backhouse Nursery was established on this site in Fishergate in 1838-41. It previously occupied the site that was to become York's first railway station inside the City Walls on Toft Green/ Tanner Row. In 1853 was moved again to a 100-acre site (bigger than Kew!) at Holgate, York (now West Bank Park)
