Building record MYO4476 - YORK CREMATORIUM

Summary

York Crematorium was built in 1962 for York Corporation, it was designed by E Firth in association with C J Minter and Richard L Sawyer, and built by Sorrell (York) Ltd. A modern building, almost domestic in design, built of light, hand-made bricks with Portland stone string-courses and cladding. The roofs are flat, except for the main chapel which is slightly pitched and the chimney has not been disguised in any way. The chapel has a window wall, overlooking a walled garden pool and fountain.
