Full Description
Medieval pottery kiln identified within or near York. The actual kiln site has not yet been found, but pottery fired in it have been identified at sites in the area including Wharram Percy. The kiln was in production from the late 12th-early 13th century and was responsible for a range of material including developed splashed wares and possibly York White wares and Brandsby Type wares. Jugs, cooking pots, dishes and aquamaniles appeared to have been products from this kiln. These were often glazed and decorated. Tiles were produced from the late 13th century. (1-2)
