Monument record MYO4738 - Roman Cemetery

Summary

A small Roman cemetery is alleged here following the finding of a tomb was found in 1833 (MYO195). Further burials have been noted during excavations on the strip of land to the south in 2019. This record covers a potential cemetery as a whole. MYO20 relates to the known Dringhouses Roman cemetery of which they may well be an extension.

Full Description

Excavation at 26-28 Tadcaster Road revealed five Roman adult skeletons and a small quantity of disarticulated bone. Where it could be discerned, the burials were either NW-SE or NE-SW in an extended supine position.
