Monument record MYO4965 - Roman barrack blocks (east of Porta Decumana)

Summary

Probable barrack blocks. Excavations at 1-5 Aldwark within the east corner of the Roman fortress revealed much disturbed timber buildings of the late 1st century. These had been replaced in the early 2nd century by carefully built stone structures with plaster facings and rendering. Both of these buildings were probably parts of barracks set against the intervallum road; the latter had been desroyed by a Mediaeval ditch at this point.
