Full Description

1st-2nd century Romano-British field system excavated in 2016 following several phases of evaluiation beginning in 1996. Excavation revealed enclosure ditches, gullies, pits and a ring ditch.
The enclosures have a close date range similar to findings at nearby St Oswalds School (2nd century). In contrast to enclosures and field systems at Heslington East (Iron Age- 4th century).

The site appears to be rural in character, the enclosures and field systems suggest a pastoral and arable use. Pottery and CBM assembles hint at close links to York and a settlement nearby.
