Elements of medieval field system of ridge and furrow in the parish of Heslington is visible as earthworks on air photographs. Most of the ridge and furrow appears levelled on later photographs (SE 645 476, SE 638 497, SE 623 499), but some areas survive as earthworks on photographs taken in 1984 (SE 627 496).

(SE 623 499) At least two blocks of ridge and furrow are well-preserved as prominent earthworks south of Fulford Golf Course clubhouse, having been incorporated into the design of the course and damaged to only a limited degree by levelling and the construction of sand bunkers. The ridges are broad (c.10m) and well developed, standing up to 0.5m high. A series of land allotments shown on John Tuke's 1798 'Map of the Low Moor' indicate that the medieval land parcels survived into the post-medieval period. (2)
