Full Description

Coal fired power station to produce electricity. Completed by Parker & Sharp Ltd on part of the Corporation Highways Depot. Opened April 1900. Included refuse destructor to supplement the raising of steam for generators.
It did not make a profit until 1910. Increased demand for electricity resulted in a hydro-electric scheme constructred at Linton Lock in 1923 and York connecting to National Grid in 1932. Control of Foss Islands Yard retained by the Corportation. Depot was modernised in 1975.
