Monument record MYO5340 - Water pumps, Upper Poppleton

Summary

Late 19th C / early 20th C water pumps, including stone troughs, which formerly supplied Poppleton residents with clean drinking water for themselves and livestock. Once a common feature across the country, such pumps are increasingly rare, and these pumps therefore have rarity value. The important, historic public function of the pumps demonstrates their communal value, and the design and function place them firmly within their time, giving some age value. Nominated for inclusion on the Local List of Heritage Assets (2024)
