Full Description

One of three blocks of almshouses. 1925-31. By Ward and Leckenby. Orange brick in English bond with dressings and eaves cornice of moulded stone; stone coped tiled roof with brick and stone cornice stacks; gable end bay window has half hipped roof of stone slates. PLAN: each house is L-shaped with central entrance and small rear service wing. EXTERIOR: 1-storey, 6-bay range. Doorways are quoined with shallow arched heads and moulded spandrels beneath stepped lintels. Windows are leaded casements, of 3 mullioned lights. At left end is a canted bay with parapet; at right end, a 1-light window in splayed surround. Gable end towards street has 5-light canted bay window and vertical slit light in stone surround in gable apex. INTERIORS: not inspected.
