Number 55 Skeldergate is an 18th century house that was rebuilt between 1942 and 1950 following war damage in 1942. In 1988 the building was divided into flats, it is now part of a hotel.

Full Description

House, now part of hotel. C18, partly rebuilt following war damage in 1942. Red brick in Flemish bond, upper storey rendered, with hipped, tiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic; 5-window front. To left, panelled double doors beneath radial-glazed overlight. Windows throughout are 12-pane sashes with painted stone sills, those on ground floor with keyed wedge lintels. 3-course raised first floor band. Parapet with flat coping masks inserted flat dormers in attic. INTERIOR: closed-string staircase, with column-on-vase balusters, moulded ramped-up handrail and turned newels.
