13 The Shambles. Timber framed house built in the early 16th century. The building was altered and refronted in the 18th century, with further alterations in the early 19th and 20th centuries. the building is now part of a restaurant and has altered 19th century shopfront.

Full Description

House, now part of restaurant. Early C16, altered and refronted in C18; further alterations in early C19 and C20. Altered C19 shopfront. Timber-framed, fronted in orange brick in Flemish bond with moulded timber eaves cornice, returned at right end; hipped tiled roof. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 2-window front. Shopfront has horizontal sliding sash window of 2x4-pane lights over external counter and half-glazed plank stable door to right. First and second floor windows are 12-pane sashes with painted sills and painted channelled wedge lintels. INTERIOR: ground floor front room has exposed ogee-stopped chamfered beams and posts, and stud partition wall with No.12 (qv). (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 215).

brick; 2 storeys plus attic; 2 renewed sash windows; moulded
eaves cornice. Part of the original open stall is incorporated in
