House. Early C18 incorporating remains of C15 house; garden front altered in mid C19, raised c1900; wing added c1900: other later alteration and subdivision.

MATERIALS: front of orange-brown brick in Flemish bond on chamfered stone plinth; painted chamfered stone quoins, timber eaves cornice and doorcase: garden front of squared coursed magnesian limestone, raised in orange-red brick in English garden-wall bond; wing of orange-red brick in English garden-wall bond. Slate roofs with brick and stone copings and brick stacks; two box dormers with 2x2-pane Yorkshire sashes to main front.

EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic; 5-bay front; wing of 2 storeys and attic to left, at right angles; 1 gabled bay. Front door of 6 raised and fielded panels beneath bordered overlight in left of centre bay of main front, in doorcase of fluted pilasters and frieze, dentilled and moulded cornice on beaded elongated consoles. All windows are 12-pane sashes, those on first floor taller, with flat arches of gauged brick; ground floor windows have renewed sills, those on first floor painted stone sills. Painted stone raised first floor band. Dentilled and modillioned eaves cornice.

Wing has garage door on ground floor and unequal 4-pane sash windows on floors above, attic one in gabled roof. Rear: 2 storeys and gabled attics; 5 bays, two to right tied beneath single shaped gable. Projecting centre bay has glazed door of two round-headed lights. To left is 2-storey canted bay with round-arched multi light windows on both floors, and clerestory of bordered lights on ground floor. To right of door is later square bay with four 1-pane round headed sash windows. Other small round-headed windows on ground floor. Remaining first floor and attic windows are unequal 4-pane sashes.

INTERIOR: not inspected: RCHM record C15 carved fireplace arch on ground floor; room with C16 moulded beams, three walls lined with early C17 wainscot and C18 fireplace with overmantel panel. Re-used fittings reset elsewhere.

House, No. 10, incorporates late mediaeval stone walls and, in the entrance hall, the carved stone arch of a 15th-century fireplace opening. Early in the 18th century the present structure was built, with the S.W. front of two storeys in brick, and utilising the existing stone walls for the other elevations; the asymmetrical front elevation was probably dictated by a pre-existing structure on the N.W. The plan at that time has been lost due to considerable additions and alterations in the second quarter of the 19th century, which included the addition of a two-storeyed canted bay in Gothic style at the rear. About 1900, further major alterations took place and the N.W. wing was rebuilt from the ground and dormered attic storeys were added to the back and N.W. side elevations, all in a hard red brick. The house contains many earlier fittings. The Study, at ground floor, has moulded beams dating from the 16th century, and three walls are wainscotted in early 17th-century panelling; the fourth wall has an 18th-century fireplace with panelled overmantel. The fine early 18th-century staircase has been re-assembled and reused. Carved stone mediaeval fragments have been built into the N.E. rear elevation. 10 Precentor's Court. Early 18th century house incorporating the remains of a 15th century house. The garden front was altered in the mid 19th century, and the alterations circa 1900 included the addition of a wing and the building being raised. Later in the 20th century the building was sub-divided into appartments.

Early C18 with later alterations. Incorporates substantial remains of late medieval stone walling and some reused C16 and C17 features. The south-west front of early C18 brick and the remaining
elevations largely of earlier stone; 2 storeys and 2 storeys plus attic; stone quoins and stringcourse between storeys; 5 sash windows; fluted pilaster doorcase with fluted frieze on consoles; dentil and modillion eaves cornice; 2 box dormers; slates. The interior has good staircase and incorporates early features, including some C16 moulded ceiling beams, early C17 panelling and a good early C18 fireplace in the north-east bedroom. C19 west wing.
