Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group at 4 Belle Vue Terrace, York during the excavation of foundations and service trenches in advance of the construction of an extension to a 19th century house. The foundation trenches were dug to a depth of approximately 0.95m under archaeological supervision, at which depth patches of probable natural sands and gravels were encountered. The monitoring showed that the area of the proposed development comprised made ground dating to the late-19th and 20th centuries, probably largely relating to the construction of the house and a later extension. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified.
