Abstract/Summary

This desk-based assessment has been compiled to determine the impact on potential archaeological remains of a proposed development at Monks Cross, York. The report has been prepared in support of a planning application for the construction of a 80 bedroom hotel on Plot 5, Monks Cross. The proposed development site lies within the York Area of Archaeological Importance and outside the Historic Core Conservation Area. Though no previous archaeological excavations have taken place within the development area, there have been a number of excavations within the wider study area which have identified Roman, medieval and post-medieval archaeological evidence.
