Title 302 Tadcaster Road WB
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2017

Abstract/Summary

The monitoring consisted of the foundation trenches for the new rear extension, following demolition of the existing one and reduction of the ground in the front garden. Area 1 concerned the foundation trenches for the rear extension, much of which consisted of ground raising layer and modern surfaces, foundations and drainage. However, there was a remnant of a loosely compacted stone surface, which may have originally extended under the existing building and possibly of Romano- British, as a single sherd of 2nd/3rd century mortaria was retrieved from the area but not directly associated. Apart than the 19th century structure of 302 Tadcaster Road, and a possible associated brick drain, the remaining archaeology was of 20th century date. Area 2 concerned the reduction of the front garden by up to 1m. The natural subsoil was not reached and only modern services encountered.
