Abstract/Summary
Archaeological monitoring of window sample boreholes was undertaken by York Archaeological Trust between March 29 and April 4 at the NCP Car Park 47–50, Piccadilly. Eight boreholes were undertaken by Dunelm Ltd using a lightweight windowless dynamic drilling rig, on behalf of Northminster Ltd. The site lies within an area of known archaeological importance on the eastern bank of the River Ouse where evaluation excavations have previously recovered evidence for multi-period occupation and waterlogged organic archaeological preservation.
Samples were sent to Geolabs Ltd for geotechnical testing to assess the permeability and porosity of a small selection of sediment cores. General Biological Samples were sent to Palaeoecology Services Ltd for assessment.
