Source/Archive record SYO2312 - York Minster Nave

Title York Minster Nave
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1999

Abstract/Summary

The excavation of several cable trenches in the nave of York Minster was monitored. Construction details of the 13th/14th-century pier bases and their relationship to the Norman nave walls were found. A slope in the preceding, medieval floor down to the north was identified. This had been levelled up when a new floor (still existing) was laid in the 1730s; simultaneously, false chamfers had been attached to the north aisle piers in order to maintain their original appearance.
