An area of garden in front of 17 St Paul's Square was removed by hand and dug to a depth of 1.50m. The resulting section showed no obvious archaeological statigraphy and consisted of a orange/brown loose sand. This was fairly fine on the surface and gradually became courser the deeper the section became. There was no pottery or finds of any date. Repair work on the front bay window suggested that recent renovation work had taken part on the basement wall.
