Abstract/Summary

The lengths of trench between each chamber were hand dug to a maximum depth of 0.35m and were c.0.25m in width. The chambers were dug to a maximum depth of c.0.75m. The majority of the trenches excavated revealed various deposits of friable silty loam topsoil to the full depth of the excavation. The area contained within the loop of the road, as seen in Chamber 4 and adjacent trench, appears to have a firm orange coloured clay directly beneath the topsoil at a fairly high level. This would appear to be the natural sub-soil which was not observed at this level in other excavations.
