Abstract/Summary

0.55m of concrete floor was removed along with modern fill and services. 1.20m below ground level (BGL) was a compact lensed deposit with inclusions of charcoal and mortar. Below this to 1.70m BGL was a sequence of deposits attributed to the Roman period consisting of a dump of building material. Several large cobbles were also identifed at 1.70m BGL and were proposed to form part of a foundaiton. Below these deposits was the natural sub soil.
