Title 23 Piccadilly, Geophysical Survey Report of No 23 Piccadilly York: Report on a Ground Penetrating Radar Survey
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

Possible structures have been identified across the three rooms. The character of the anomalies suggest the structural remains are in the form of stone built walls or foundations, though they may be fragmented. Given the fragmentary conditions of the identified anomalies and the long occupation of this part of the historic city of York, it is difficult to ascribe these anomalies any more specific time period. A shallow buried surface has been detected across the survey areas. This post-dates the possible structural remains most likely relates to a final levelling event prior to the erection of the present building. In addition, a small portion of a buried surface was also found in one of the deepest layers which may be related to an older levelling event; however, a more specific interpretation could not be arrived at.
