Title Millthorpe School, York. Archaeological Watching Brief Report
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

This third phase of the archaeological monitoring enabled the presence of a large ditch to be identified and recorded in section. The ditch is aligned north-east/south-west and measured 2.6m in width by 0.96m in depth. It appears to have filled quickly with loose from its edges after construction, with the secondary fill being more substantial and comprised of cobbles- some showing fire damage. The presence of slag in this secondary fill could indicate the proximity of furnace smelting.
