York Archaeology conducted a trial trench evaluation at New Lane Cemetery between the 9th and the 12th May 2022. The work involved the excavation, recording and backfilling of four evaluation trenches. These trenches revealed a modern network of ceramic field drains, several plough scars from modern agriculture and a small number of features that proved upon investigation to be geological irregularities. No archaeological remains were discovered, which corresponds to the geophysical survey results.
