Abstract/Summary

This evaluation took place in 2 phases (October 2022 and January 2023). A total of 29 trenches were excavated over the two phases. Trenches revealed deposits of natural clays and sands throughout. Plough marks and land drains were noted. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified. The trenching was undertaken to evaluate the surviving sub-surface archaeology on land north of Monks Cross, York. The geophysical survey undertaken in 2014 by ASWYAS, which demonstrated anomalies of agricultural origin. An archaeological watching brief on 212 test pits undertaken in 2015 by LS Archaeology, archaeological features were observed in two testpits.
