Abstract/Summary

An archaeological investigation was carried out by On Site Archaeology at 24 Coney Street. The investigation comprised the archaeological excavation of one trench to accommodate a new pad foundation. The trench was located in an existing cellar within the rear part of the property, approximately 11m back from the street frontage. The works were required due to the need to erect a new support for the existing cellar roof. The trench revealed probably medieval archaeological deposits immediately below the existing cellar floor. These deposits extended down to the full depth of excavation, to 0.50m below the current floor surface. They are likely to represent dumps and yard deposits within the rear part of medieval property fronting onto Coney Street.
