Abstract/Summary

An evaluation excavation carried out by North Duffield Society as part of their HLF funded investigation into the prehistory of the Vale of York south of the city of York. Four trenches were excavated at Wheldrake, revealing a large number of features associated with multiple phases of a late Iron Age to early Roman settlement. Trenches 1 and 3 both contained the ring-ditches of round-houses, while Trenches 2 and 4 were located over the boundary ditches of a large double-bounded enclosure surrounding the buildings in Trench 3.
