Abstract/Summary
Watching Brief undertaken on the construction of an equestrian menage on land south of Hardmoor House, Broad Highway, Wheldrake.
The archaeological watching brief has confirmed that the subsoil in this area contains frequent cut features, predominantly from the Iron Age and Romano British periods. It seems that this part of the landscape was more intensively used in that period and that it then became more marginalised as part of the area known as Hardmoor, essentially the common shared by townships at Wheldrake, Elvington and Heslington and containing the hamlet of Langwith.
