The watching brief comprised the observation of mechanical excavations for foundations for the extension. A medieval boundary ditch, containing pottery dated to the later 11th century, and evidence for large-scale ground reduction, probably for quarrying of the underlying clay were recorded. Medieval pottery was also recovered from the backfill of this quarry, and also from a layer of ploughsoil.
