Abstract/Summary

On the 9th and 10th June 2025 York Archaeology conducted a programme of archaeological site investigation at Northern House, Rougier Street, York. The archaeological works comprised a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording on trial pits, with the aim of informing on the impact of a proposed crane base pit (Planning application 24/02021/FUL). The trial pits revealed the presence of structures belonging to 19th century domestic and commercial properties from approximately 0.5m below ground level (BGL), probable post-medieval deposits at approximately 1.3m BGL, and the top of potentially medieval deposits from around 1.6m BGL.
