Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at 60 Goodramgate, during ground reduction works associated with internal refurbishment. The site lies within the historic core of York, fronting Goodramgate — a principal medieval street laid out in the 12th century and historically associated with Lady Row (constructed in 1316).
The findings suggest that No. 60 Goodramgate represents a Georgian-period rebuild of an earlier medieval plot, with below-ground evidence for earlier phases incorporated or sealed during later construction. This sequence reflects the long-term continuity of urban occupation along Goodramgate, where medieval street plots were redeveloped and adapted through successive centuries while retaining their original layout and commercial character.
