Title Archaeological Monitoring Report: S2 Leeman's Yard - Contamination Mitigation
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2025

Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring took place during the mitigation excavation of hydrocarbon contamination hotspot S2 between the 13th and 31st January 2023. During two main excavation stages, an irregular ovoid shape, c.37m north-west to south-east and c.15m south-west to north-east was investigated, although the battered sides resulted in the deepest part of the excavation being c.4m less on each axis. The depth of the excavation was c.3m deep. A buried soil approximately 0.9m deep was observed at c.9.80m aOD. It exhibited a slightly undulating profile, suggestive of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. No archaeological deposits of significance were encountered.
