Abstract/Summary
A watching brief was maintained during the conversion of Church House from office to residential use in 2023-24. Archaeoloigcal monitoring was required under the terms of the Scheduled Monument Consent during the installation of a new biundary fence, during excavations for new service connections including gas, electricity and sewerage connections, and excavations for foundations for a new storage shed, garden planting and an access ramp.
No significant archaeological deposits or features were observed. All interventions encountered exsiting services, and modern demolition and levelling deposits associated with previous adaptations of Church House. The foundations of the brick-built car park retaining wall included some reused Medieval masonry that was recorded in-situ.
