Title 23 Clifford Street
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1991

Abstract/Summary

The excavation of four trenches within the cellars of the standing building suggest that pre-castle deposits had been removed over much of the area although the corner of a possible post-in-trench structure and a single inhumation burial were recorded. Robber trenches of walls presumably associated with the Franciscan Friary were located and these were filled with high quality architectural fragments, painted plaster and glass. Medieval levels were sealed by 18th century garden soils.
