Field Archaeology Specialists were commissioned to undertake a series of small core boreholes on the site of the proposed Shepherds development on the northem side of Blue Bridge Lane, adjacent to the river Foss (Figure 1). The investigation comprised a total of five boreholes located over the sites of manholes present in the drainage scheme of the proposed development. The location of the boreholes is shown in Figure 2. The investigation was undertaken with a view to establish the impact that the construction of the manholes might have on archaeological deposits in the immediate vicinity and the level of any mitigation that may be required.
