Description

YORK SE5751SW FRONT STREET, Acomb 1112-1/18/1190 (South side) 20/09/74 Nos.14 AND 14A Acomb Manor House II House, now 2 houses. Late C15 or early C16 with later alterations, including some at the end of the C19. Restored 1987. Timber-framed, with brick casing which is partly covered by painted render. Pantiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. The windows are either horizontal or vertical sliding sashes and all have glazing bars. At the left there is one bay of exposed brick which has a vertical sash on the ground floor and a horizontal sash above. To the right there are 3 bays which have horizontal sashes. On the ground floor the outer bays have sashes in 3 sections and the central bay has a doorway. To the right there is a second doorway, with one bay to its right which has vertical sashes. The doorways have pilaster doorcases with modillion cornices, and have panelled doors. Ridge chimneys to right of left-hand bay and to right of 4th bay. To the left there is a lower wing rebuilt in the C20, with 2 boarded garage doorways with segmental arches. The right-hand (north) gable wall of the house has a vertical glazing bar sash window on the ground floor. INTERIOR: not inspected. RCHM records massive internal timber-framing visible.
