Includes: No.30 PAVEMENT. Row of three houses, now one shop. c1796: shopfronts are late C19 to No..30 Pavement, c1955 to Nos 55 and 56 Fossgate. MATERIALS: buff-grey brick in Flemish bond with dressings of orange rubbed brick; dentil and modillion cornice of timber; truncated brick stacks to hipped slate roof. C20 shopfront of teak, stainless steel and granite veneer. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 6-bay front. Shopfront to Nos 55 and 56 Fossgate continuous with No.54 (qv) with plate glass windows and doors of bevelled glass with overlights. Shopfront to No.30 Pavement framed in fluted pilasters with moulded imposts on panelled pedestals, beneath coved frieze and moulded cornice with dentilled capping interrupted by carved grooved brackets surmounted by segmental gablets. Panelled double doors of bevelled glass, curved to corner, flanked by plate glass windows over granite veneer risers. First floor windows are tall 12-pane sashes, on second floor unequal 9-pane sashes: outer windows tripartite on both floors. Dated rainwater head initialled TW at left end of eaves cornice. Pavement front: 3 storeys, 1 window. First floor window is 16-pane sash, second floor unequal 12-pane sash. All windows have painted stone sills and flat arches. INTERIOR: of shop: early C20 shop fittings. No.30 Pavement was first listed 01/07/68. (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 134).
